Entertainment Week Africa 2025 was built around a simple but urgent idea: Close the Gap. Across six days in Lagos, that idea moved from theory to practice, as creatives, founders, investors, and institutions came together to build systems around Africa’s creative talent, not just celebrate it.
This year’s edition brought together 28,683 registered participants, 176 speakers, and 61 sessions across five locations, spanning music, film, fashion, AI and tech, live production, and entrepreneurship. Beyond the numbers, EWA 2025 focused on outcomes: skills developed, businesses strengthened, stories shaped, and careers nudged forward.
One of the clearest examples was the Story Lab, a four-day intensive for emerging writers facilitated by Lani Aisida, Nicole Asinugo, and Dami Elebe, with support from Netflix, Amazon Prime, NdaniTV, and Africa Magic. From an initial pool of 15 writers, eight were selected, leaving with six polished story concepts designed for global development pipelines.
On the business side, the Deal Room and AI & Tech Hackathon showed what happens when creative ambition meets structure. From over 178 Deal Room applications, nine companies entered the accelerator, with four leaving fully scale-ready and in active investor conversations. Hackathon teams moved from problem identification to investor-facing demos in just days.
EWA 2025 also leaned into culture as lived experience. 93 films were screened, 20 music showcases took place, and the Runway Coterie platformed emerging designers alongside established voices. SoundLab produced 26 original songs across ten days, while Jokes n Jollof introduced a live comedy competition that spotlighted new talent in front of real audiences.
With over 800 million digital impressions across four continents, EWA 2025 reinforced that Africa’s creative economy is not emerging, it is already here. The work now is alignment: access to capital, credible pathways to scale, and communities that sustain growth.
Entertainment Week Africa remains committed to being more than a moment. It is a platform, a process, and a growing ecosystem designed to turn creative potential into lasting value.
